Mayor and Elected Members
The system of elected member representation was reviewed for the 2007 elections. There are four wards with three members elected per ward:
There is also a Rotorua Lakes Community Board with four members elected and two appointed by Council. The next elections will be held in October 2010.
Elected members are advised by the chief executive (who may seek additional external advice on matters such as legal opinions) and by staff.
Resources are also available from such bodies as Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ), and professional organisations. However, first and foremost, elected members are advised by the community which they represent, through many formal and informal processes.
