Urban Design Framework

The Council identified city centre revitalisation as one of the top priority actions following extensive community consultation in 2006. To achieve this, the Council has commissioned the Urban Design Framework, a document designed to provide an overarching concept and direction for new and existing developments and activities in the city centre.

The framework is based on an activity precinct approach where some distinctive areas within the city centre have been identified for improvement. The key precinct areas are:

Feedback from consultation with the community closed on 15 October 2010.  All submissions are currently being analysed and will be considered by Council early 2011.

The framework is a long-term project that will be delivered in a series of smaller projects. Some of these smaller projects have already started, such as the strengthening of the Eat Streat activity, the Night Market, and the delivery of the Lakefront Development Concept.
