Council Chamber & Committee Room accessibility features

  • Interpreter
    A Sign Language interpreter is available by request with 2 weeks advance notice.
  • Public transport
    Regular bus service with the main bus stop in Pukuatua Street approximately 400 meters from the Civic Centre.
  • Mobility parking
    There are 11 mobility parks within close proximity to the Civic Centre. They are:
    Haupapa St. - 4 mobility car parks approximately 10 metres from the door.
    Arawa St.  - 4 mobility car parks approximately 120 metres from the Haupapa St entrance
    Hinemaru St - 3 mobility car parks including 1 car park approximately 30 meters from the Hinemaru entrance.
  • Drop off / Pick up
    Vehicles may stop (not park) approximately 5 metres from Hinemaru and Haupapa Streets front door.
  • Ramp access
    Wheelchair and mobility scooter ramp access to both front doors from the footpath.
  • Toilets
    Accessible toilets are located on the ground floor in the Customer Centre on the right-hand side as you enter the Haupapa Street entrance. Although there are toilets on the 1st floor these are not easily accessible. It is recommended that wheelchair users use the lift to the ground floor toilets in the Customer Centre.
  • Moving around the venue
    All corridors and doorways to the meeting rooms are wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs and mobility scooters. The staircase has hand rails and the lifts to the first floor are also accessible.
  • Emergency plan
    There is an approved evacuation plan in place. Wardens will assist people from the building in the unlikely event of an emergency.
  • Hearing loops
    Council Chamber - hearing loops available
    Committee rooms - no hearing loops available
  • Guide dogs
    A grass area outside the Hinemaru St entrance is available for Guide Dogs.
