Water Connections
Council controls and maintains records for all water connections to the water supplies under its control. There are set requirements regarding the number and types of connections permitted, as well as the materials and equipment used.
Only Council-approved contractors may work on Council water mains.
Applying for a new connection
An application form is required for every new or relocated dwelling or building. It is also required where a change of usage is occurring to a property (ie domestic to commercial).
- Submit a completed water connection application to Council.
- Enclose a site plan of your property, showing the preferred location of the connection and a measurement to the nearest boundary peg.
- Enclose the administration fee of $92. Administration fee NOT charged when
- a service line is already in place
- a change of use is required
- a relocation is required
- Council will assess your application within five days of receipt.
Water connection application form
After the connection is approved
Council will write to you, outlining any further requirements or restrictions, including the need for a meter, backflow preventer or flow restrictor. You will receive a list of approved contractors and the necessary documentation. You may then obtain quotations, and/or engage a contractor.
Costs and timeframes
The cost of the connection will depend on the work that needs to be done. You need to arrange payment details with your contractor.
If work is required on water mains under footpaths or roads, the contractor must submit a ‘Road Corridor Access Request’ before work can commence. Processing can take up to 15 days from the date of application.
