Due Dates, Discounts, Penalties and Refunds
Due dates
The 2011/2012 rates (including targeted rates for non-metered water supply charged annually) are payable in four instalments. The due date for each instalment will be stated on your quarterly rates invoice. Due dates are as follows:
- Instalment Number 1 Due by 25 August 2011
- Instalment Number 2 Due by 25 November 2011
- Instalment Number 3 Due by 25 February 2012
- Instalment Number 4 Due by 25 May 2012
The next working day becomes the final day for payment if the due date falls on a weekend or public holiday.
Targeted rates for metered water supply are payable within 30 days of invoice each quarter.
Discount
If you pay the Balance to Clear amount (eg. the net total annual rates) by the due date for instalment 1, this amount includes a 2.0% discount.
Penalties
If you do not pay your rates by the due date, you will incur penalties.
Current overdue instalments
- A charge of 10% on so much of an instalment that has been assessed after 1 July 2011 and remains unpaid on the day after the due date.
Arrears
- A charge of 10% on so much of any rates assessed before 1 July 2011 which remain unpaid on 12 July 2011.
- A further charge of 10% on any rates to which a penalty has been added under i) on so much of these rates which remain unpaid on 12 January 2012.
Current overdue invoices for water supply charged quarterly
- A charge of 10% on so much of an invoice for metered water supply that has been assessed after 1 July 2011 and remains unpaid on the first working day of the week following the due date or a later date if so specified on the invoice.
Refunding overpayment
If you have overpaid your rates, you may write to Council applying for a refund, and provide
- your property valuation number
- details of the amount to be refunded
- instructions for payment.
Council will refund overpaid rates provided a genuine case exists. Council may charge an administration fee where appropriate.
