Structure Plans
As part of the Rotorua District Plan review, a number of related planning exercises are being progressed to provide a framework for the sustainable growth and development of Rotorua over the next 30-50 years.
A structure plan has been prepared for the eastern and western sides of Lake Rotorua, which is where most growth in the district is predicted to occur. The next stage is the integration of the structure plans.
Outstanding Natural Features and Landscapes
Council has commissioned Boffa Miskell Ltd to undertake a landscape assessment of the district.
The purpose of the studies is to provide base information on the district’s landscapesto assess which landscapes and natural features are outstanding. The studies will involve fieldwork consultation with stakeholders, assessment and reporting.

Wetlands and lakes and rivers and their margins, and the protection of them from inappropriate subdivision, use, and development;
The protection of outstanding natural features and landscapes from inappropriate subdivision, use and development;
