Liquor Control Bylaw 2009 Review

The Public Places Liquor Control Bylaw 2003 is currently under review, as part of the Local Government Act 2002 requirements.  Council must review bylaws made under the Act, within five years of them being adopted.

The objectives of the bylaw include:

  • The control of liquor in specified public places to protect the public from nuisance, enhance public safety and minimise the potential for offensive behaviour.
  • To address problems associated with dangerous littering, disorderly behaviour, wilful damage and physical assaults arising from the possession or consumption of liquor in certain public places in the Rotorua District.

The following bylaw is aimed at controlling the consumption of 'Liquor in Public Places' only as defined within the bylaw itself.
