Noise Control
You have the right to have excessive noise stopped or reduced at any time.
Council has the power to control excessive and unreasonable noise anywhere in the Rotorua District. We provide a 24-hour 7-day noise control service.
What is excessive noise?
Any noise under human control which reasonably interferes with the peace, comfort and convenience of any person.
How does the noise control officer determine if noise is excessive?
If you make a complaint, we will assess the effect the noise is having on you, taking into account the time of day, background noise and duration.
What happens if noise is found to be excessive?
We issue a noise direction notice which requires the noise to be immediately reduced to a reasonable level. The notice is valid for 72 hours. We can seize equipment if those involved do not comply with the notice.
