Starting or purchasing a food business
Contact Council to discuss your plans, whether you are starting a new food business or purchasing a business that is already operating. We will assist you with the requirements, including the need to complete a change of ownership form if you are buying an established business. We will discuss food safety issues and requirements.
Council's Environmental Health Division inspects all premises that prepare and sell food.
Our regular inspection regime ensures that standards are adequate, to minimise the risks associated with food-borne bacteria. Premises that meet the required standards are issued with a licence under the Health Act and Regulations.
Food premises closure
The Rotorua District Council Food Safety Bylaw 2006 aims to ensure that safe food is available at all of the district’s food premises.
The bylaw allows us to close any food premises where food is at risk of contamination, or may become dirtied or deteriorated.
