House Plan. Draw a plan of your home

Here’s an activity that you can get your whole family involved in.  Have you ever thought about how you would get out of your house if there was an emergency and the front door was blocked?

Using the activity sheet, draw a floorplan of your home that shows all doors and windows.

  • How many exit ways are there from each room for getting outside?  Can you find more than one way out?
  • Organise with your family where you will meet once you get outside.  Make sure it is somewhere safe away from power lines and gas pipes.
  • Have an adult show you where you can turn off the water, electricity and/or gas to your house.
  • Where is the nearest phone?
