Building Vetting Checklist and Applications

For initial completion by the applicant.

Use the appropriate Vetting Checklist when finalizing your plans and specifications to help lodge a complete application and avoid delays in processing. Your application will be based on this check list to ensure that it has sufficient information to be accepted for processing.

If insufficient information is supplied or the application (Form 2) is not completed it will be returned to you and you maybe required to re-book for another application vetting appointment.

Please note a full description of the proposed work is required in the application form (e.g.) if the application is for a new house with solar water heating system and a free standing fire place, please state this.

To apply for a building consent for RESIDENTIAL work you need to complete …  

• Building Consent Application Forms You will need forms Form 2, Form 2A and an LBP Notification Form Make two copies of all information (including specifications, plans, relevant manufacturer's details etc) to accompany your application. 
• For a Re-sited Dwelling a Re-site report must be included with the application
• Re-site Report Application form  (pdf 23kb)
• Code Compliance Certificate Application (form 6) (pdf 108kb)
• Complete the appropriate vetting checklist
• Habitable Buildings and major alterations (pdf 50kb)
• Non-habitable – Garages, carports or farm buildings  (pdf 49kb)
• Outdoor structures – Decks, retaining walls, conservatories or roofed pergolas (pdf 30kb)
• Minor internal domestic alterations, wet area showers (pdf 29kb)

To apply for a building consent for COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL work you need to complete …

• Building Consent Application (Form 2) (pdf 113kb) 
• Make two copies of all information (including specifications, plans, relevant manufacturer's details etc) to accompany your application. 
• Code Compliance Certificate Application (form 6) (pdf 108kb)
• Commercial Vetting checklist (pdf 50kb)

You may need a fire report design and compliance schedule and a certificate of public use.

To apply for a building consent for DEMOLITION work you need to complete...

• Make two copies of the site plan detailing the buildings to be removed, site fencing and where/how all services are to be terminated

To apply for an AMENDMENT to a building consent …

If your plan has changed and you don’t yet have a building consent, simply provide Council with two copies of your plans, showing the proposed changes.

If you already have a building consent and want to make a change

• Complete an Application to Amend Building Consent (Form 2A)  (pdf 86kb)
• Provide the form and two copies of your amended plans to Council  provide the form and two copies of your amended plans to Council

To apply for a SOLID FUEL HEATER building consent...

• Check that the fire you want to install is on the Government's list of approved 'clean air' burners go to Authorised Wood Burners
• Building Consent Application (Form 2) (pdf 113kb)
• Make two copies of all information (including floor plans showing the complete layout of the dwelling and the intended location of the fireplace and smoke detectors; manufacturer's specifications for the model of fire; a cross-section through the roof showing the flue and flue heights above the roof level and the relevant flashing details for the flue through the roofing material) 
• Complete the Solid Fuel Heater Vetting and Processing Checklist (pdf 35kb)

To apply for a SWIMMING POOL building consent you need to complete …

• Building Consent Application (Form 2) (pdf 113kb)
• Provide two site plans showing the location of the swimming pool in relation to boundaries, details on the fencing and backflow prevention(where applicable) and, if there are any doors or windows opening directly onto the swimming pool area, how these will be secured, as well as any other information required.
