Animal Welfare

Animal Welfare matters are as a rule dealt with by the SPCA under the provisions of the Animal Welfare Act 1999.

Animal Control officers can deal with offences such as a dog having no water, food or shelter.  Matters concerning cruelty or neglect should be referred to the SPCA.
Council carries out wandering stock and dog control in the district.  We have a stock holding area and a central dog pound.
General rates fund the full cost of controlling wandering stock and part of the cost of dog control.
