Drivewise Rotorua Trust
Drivewise was first established in 1989 as part of a Christmas anti-drink and drive campaign. It became incorporated as a Charitable Trust in 1995. The Trust now comprises representatives from groups that have a vested interest in road safety and sustainable transport including:
· Community Groups & Associations,
· Rotorua District Council,
· NZ Police,
· ACC,
· Safe-2-Go,
· Health Rotorua PHO
However, depending on the project, Drivewise also works extensively with Schools, Plunket, Early Childhood Centres, Marae, Sporting Groups, Students Against Drink Driving (SADD), etc.
Funding is obtained through grants and sponsorship. Land Transport New Zealand is a key provider of funding for community projects, as well as providing key road safety information relevant to the Rotorua district. The Rotorua District Council provides funding for a Coordinator, who is an essential part of coordinating local road safety activities.
Drivewise meets at Rotorua District Council on the first Wednesday of each month. Those with an interest in road safety and/or sustainable transport are welcome to attend.
