Using this method your rates are automatically deducted each quarter (or annually if you prefer) from your nominated bank account. Rates assessment notices are still sent to you each quarter with a reminder message about the Direct Debit payment you have authorised. The message will inform you of the amount that will be debited from your bank account and confirms the date that this will be done.

Council is able to process payments made either by Internet Banking or Telephone Banking but it is important to contact the rates department before setting these payments up with your bank in order that the correct information is registered against these payments to avoid delays with your payment reaching the council.

This allows you to make regular payments from your bank account (e.g. weekly, fortnightly, monthly) but you should contact the rates department for the appropriate set up form to ensure that the correct information is registered against these payments. Remember also that you may need to increase these payments from time to time to ensure that they completely clear the instalment due to avoid any late payment penalties.

Credit card payments are generally not accepted by Council for the payment of rates but Mastercard or Visa credit cards can now be used to pay rates when processed through the secure Eftpos New Zealand on-line payment service. This service is only accessible via the Council’s website.
Please note there is a 2.1% fee based on the amount paid payable to Eftpos New Zealand for each transaction (Council does not receive any part of this fee).
