Any breach of parking restrictions as specified in the Transport Act 1962 or the Land Transport (Road User) Rule 2004, may incur a fine. The list below outlines the types of offences and the amount that you can be charged for each one.
Any offence involving parking on a road in breach of a bylaw, in excess of a restricted time period,
or at an expired meter, where the excess time is:
- Not more than 30 minutes - $10
- Between 30 minutes and one hour -$14
- Between one hour and two hours - $20
- Between two hours and four hours - $30
- Between four hours and six hours - $34
Parking offences that incur a $40 fine:
- Parked on a footpath.
- Parked on a corner, bend or rise.
- Parked within six metres of a bus stop marked only by a sign.
- Parked across a vehicle entrance.
- Parked near a fire hydrant.
- Incorrect kerb parking.
- Parked causing damage to grass.
- Parked in a loading zone.
- Incorrect angle parking.
- Parked the wrong way on a one-way street.
- Parked in a disabled person's car park when not displaying a mobility card.
- Parked in a metered space when not displaying a ticket.
- Parked over a line marking a parking space.
- Parked in an area restricted to motorcycles only.
Parking offences that incur a $60 fine:
- Parked on or within six metres of an intersection.
- Parked on or near a pedestrian crossing.
- Parked on broken yellow lines.
- Double parking.
- Inconsiderate parking.
- Parked on a clearway.
- Parked in a Special Vehicle Lane (Cycle Lane).
- Parked on a marked bus stop or taxi stand.
Parking offences that incur a $150 fine:
- Worn or damaged tyres (tread less than 1.5mm).
Parking offences that incur a $200 fine:
- Failing to display a current warrant of fitness.
- Failing to display a current licence label.
- Parked with no or incorrect licence plates.
Parking offences that incur a $600 fine:
- Failing to display a current certificate of fitness.
