What an accord is and isn't
An accord is a group of local licensees, the Police, District Licensing Agency officers, Public Health representatives, council representatives and relevant agencies who meet regularly to hear the latest industry information and talk through current issues.
Alcohol accords do not restrict your business. In fact, research has shown that accords are good for business. They can create a safe and welcoming image that leads to favourable word of mouth reports and increased numbers of repeat customers.
Joining an accord
- means you can find out the latest information on the issues that affect your business
- is a great way to put your views across to the Police, liquor licensing and Public Health officers, so you can make sure any of your concerns are heard.
- gives you access to free host responsibility training for you and your staff.
The Rotorua CBD Alcohol Accord
Welcome to the Rotorua CBD Alcohol Accord, a practical way of dealing with day-to-day issues in the CBD. The Rotorua CBD Alcohol Accord was established in 2007 with an initial focus on the CBD area. The accord is chaired by Graeme McKay of the Hospitality Association of New Zealand (HANZ). All owners and managers of licensed bars, cafes and restaurants in the central city area are welcome to attend.
Purpose of the accord
To adopt and promote the safe, responsible sale and supply of alcohol in the Rotorua CBD, by all parties to this accord and the community, with the aim of reducing alcohol related harm.
Accord meetings are held at Rotorua District Council from 10:30am on the second Tuesday of every month. Therefore, dates for 2008 accord meetings are:

- Tuesday 9th September 08
- Tuesday 14th October 08
