Fundview and Breakout Database

If you need funding - look at these!  Rotorua District Council sponsors Fundview & Breakout at six public venues.  You can use these resources for free at the Rotorua Public Library, Mokoia Community Association, Citizens Advice Bureau, Pacific Island Development Trust, Te Whare Hauora o Ngongotaha and Rotorua Community Youth Centre.

Funding Information Service produces three online searchable databases about funding and works with all sectors in New Zealand i.e. community and voluntary sector, whanau, hapu and iwi organisations, education and training, environment, arts, sport and recreation, culture and heritage, business, economic development, central and local government.

Fundview is the primary source of information in New Zealand about funding for community and voluntary sector organisations.  It holds information about 621 funding schemes totalling almost $1 billion.  The funding comes from government, local government, statutory trusts, local trusts, service organisations, corporates and philanthropic trusts.  The information includes application requirements, criteria and closing dates, funding available, contact details and other relevant information.

BreakOut is a database of 2300 awards, scholarships and grants for individuals mainly in tertialry study, research, personal development, sport and artistic fields.  Like FundView it includes comprehensive information in each record.

Rate Remissions

Rotorua District Council operates a rates remission policy.  Charitable organisations may be eligible to apply for a remission under this policy for rates on the land they occupy.  The purpose of such remissions is to assist the organisations' survival and make their services more accessible to the general public, particularly disadvantaged groups.  For charitable organisations that lease rather than own, Council also has a policy for grants in lieu of rate remissions.

For further details about Council's rates remission policy click here.

For further information or to apply for a rates remission contact the Rates Operations Manager, phone 07 350 0209 overseas +64 7 350 0209 ext 8095.

Community Asset Development Fund

The focus of the Community Asset Development Fund is for capital works, being the purchase of a new community asset, or replacement of an existing community asset (including additions).  Rotorua District Council will consider requests from community groups, cultural and arts groups, as well as sporting and recreational groups.  However, there should be a proven community need for such an asset to be established or upgraded in the Rotorua District.

Applications for School Based Community assets will be able to be accepted under certain criteria.

Applications for assistance for Marae will only be considered where the Marae is available and used by the general community; is used for a variety of purposes; and there is no similar facility in the locality (e.g. a community hall).  Alternative sources of funding for Marae are available through the Lotteries Grants Board's Marae Heritage and Facilities Fund.

Applications for the 2008 Community Asset Development Fund open on September 1st and forms will be available at that time.

Community Safety Projects Fund

The Rotorua District Council (RDC) Community Safety Projects fund is open for applications.

RDC Community Safety Offiecer, Juanita Seymour, says the fund provides non-profit organisations with the opportunity to enhance their services.

In December 2007 $52,000 was allocated amongst local community organisations that support community safety.

Tarimana Kohanga  Reo, Waiariki Women's Refuge, Blue Light Rotorua, Te Waiariki Purea Trust, Rotorua Maori Wardens Association, and Ko Te Tuara Totara O Fordlands received funding.

"A high proportion of these organisations had common goals around improving community safety in the CBD and surrounding reserves; building community capability for neighbourhood and community initiatives; reducing tourism related crime and youth offending; and addressing alcohol and drug issues," says Ms Seymour.

"We're keen to hear from other groups who need financial help with new community safety initiatives."

The next round is open and closes at 4pm, Friday 29 March 2008.

Applications forms are available from the Public Library, Citizens' Advice Bureau, Te Puni Kokiri, RDC Civic Centre or by contacting Ms Seymour on 348 4199.
