The Parks and Recreation Department of Rotorua District Council, manages and maintains 16 active sportsfields, both in the central Rotorua area and outlying districts of Ngongotaha and Eastern Suburbs. The 10 more popular sportsfields are listed below with the remaining 6 being:
Jessie Martin Park - situated on Hood Street, Jessie Martin Park has recently been renovated to allow for one full-sized field which is generally used for soccer.
Ngongotaha Domain - this reserve, adjacent to the Ngongotaha Stream has its main road frontage on Beaumonts Road, Ngongotaha, with additional vehicle access from Domain Avenue. It is utilised by Ngongotaha Rugby Club and consists of two fields, one with floodlighting, and a toilet block with changing rooms.
Jackson Park - this large reserve connects Springfield Road, Otonga Road and McDowell Street. Jackson Park provides an extra grass wicket for cricket in the summer.
Turner Drive - situated on Turner Drive, this reserve has been set up to provide two sportsfields. It contains a playground and a toilet block.
Park Road Reserve - situated on Park Road, this reserve is utilised by a number of codes for training purposes. It has floodlights, toilet facilities and changing rooms.
Rowi Street Reserve - located off the end of Rowi Street, this reserve contains two sportsfields and is used for overflow of soccer games in the winter and cricket in the summer.
The Department is responsible for ensuring that these areas are maintained and managed to an appropriate standard. This means undertaking renovation work to playing fields, erecting and dismantling goal posts for various sporting codes, line marking, field allocation and hireage to ensure that the sportsfields are kept looking their best and provide the best playing surface.
Neil Hunt ParkSituated along Te Ngae Road, the main access road opens onto Tarawera Road.
Neil Hunt Park is home to Eastern Pirates Rugby Football Club and Suburbs Soccer Club. Codes such as Cricket, Softball, Rugby and Soccer utilise this reserve.
Puketawhero ParkThis reserve runs between Te Ngae Road and Vaughans Road and is predominantly used for Rugby League.
Fencing around the No. 1 and 2 fields enables these fields to be charge grounds.
The overflow parking area of the reserve on Te Ngae Road is now home to a skateboard ramp and half-court basketball court which was funded by Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust.
Medical Officers ReserveSituated along Pukuatua Street, Medical Officers Reserve is made up of two fields. The reserve is predominantly used by Rugby League in the winter for training and Rotorua Softball for T-Ball in the summer.
Floodlights are situated on the reserve and there are toilet and changing facilities also.
Tamarahi ReserveLocated on Stembridge Road in Ngongotaha, Tamarahi Reserve is home to the Ngongotaha Association Football Club.
The reserve contains one soccer field and a practice area.
Linton ParkLocated on Edmund Road, Linton Park provides fields of play for Rotorua City Association Football Club and Geyser City Touch Association.
Adjacent to the No. 1 field is a carpark and clubrooms belonging to the Rotorua City Association Football Club. A toilet block and changing facilities are located on the reserve.
Ray Boord Park/Westbrook ReserveSituated on Devon Street, Boord Park is commonly used for hockey, cricket and junior rugby.
Smallbone ParkLocated on Devon Street, Smallbone Park is home to Rotorua Cricket Association and has hosted many State Shield and Representative cricket games in its past.
Also located at Smallbone Park is the hockey turf fields leased by the Hockey Association
The Utuhina Stream forms part of the boundary on the northwest side of the Reserve.
Rotorua International StadiumThis facility is administered by Event Venues.
Kuirau ParkLocated on Pukuatua Street, Kuirau Park sportsfields are currently home to Kahukura Rugby Football Club. The Club lease a portion of the reserve which provides clubroom facilities. Sports such as rugby, cricket, touch and netball are all played at Kuirau Park.
Puarenga ParkPreviously known as Soccer Park, Puarenga Park is located on Te Ngae Road and is the home ground for Junior Soccer and the Whaka Rugby Club.
Toilets and changing rooms are located on the western side of the reserve with the Whaka Rugby Clubrooms being located on the eastern side.
