Grants and Funding Information
- Council administers a range of funding and resources to support local community organisations and activities, including grants, loans and contracts, and subsidised accommodation in community venues
- Council manages central Government funding for arts and recreation organisations through Creative Communities and other grants programmes
- Council provides computerised funding databases at several public venues
- Council operates a rates remission policy for charitable organisations
- Council holds bi-annual funding expos.
Fundview and Breakout
Funding information resources Fundview and Breakout are available at the Rotorua District Council Civic Centre, Rotorua District Library, Mokoia Community Association, Citizens Advice Bureau, Te Whare Hauora o Ngongotaha, Te Waiariki Purea Trust, and Rotorua Community Youth Centre.
Fundview is New Zealand’s primary source of information on funding for voluntary organisations in our community.
- Holds information about more than 600 funding schemes
- Funding comes from government, local government, statutory and philanthropic trusts, gaming trust and some service organisations
- Information includes eligibility, details about funder, application process and contact details
- Includes a ‘detailed help’ resource to assist new and inexperienced applicants.
Breakout is New Zealand’s primary source of funding information for students, researchers, sports people, artists and those seeking personal development.

Rates Remissions
Charitable organisations may be eligible to apply for rates remissions for the land they occupy. Council has a policy for grants in lieu of rate remissions for charitable organisations that lease land.

Community Asset Development Fund
The Community Asset Development Fund is available for capital works - for the purchase of a new community asset, or replacement of an existing community asset (including additions). Council will consider requests from:
- community groups, cultural and arts groups, and sports and recreational groups
- schools (under certain criteria)
- marae that are available for public use for a variety of purposes, where there is no similar facility (such as a hall) in the area.
Alternative sources of funding for marae are available through the Lotteries Grants Board's Marae Heritage and Facilities Fund.
The fund opens on Monday 30 August and closes Friday 29 October2010.
The Grants sub committee will consider all applications in late Feruary 2011.

Creative Communities
Creative Communities Rotorua is a partnership between Creative New Zealand and Rotorua District Council. The scheme’s main focus is to stimulate and provide support to arts and culture projects which:

broaden community involvement;
-
support the diversity and cultural traditions of local communities, enriching and promoting their uniqueness and cultural diversity;
-
and enable and encourage young people (less than 18 yrs) to engage with and actively participate in the arts.
Each year, the Assessment Committee conducts two funding rounds. The 2010 Main Round has been completed.
The 2010 Discretionary Round opens on 30 August and closes 1 October, with $10,000 available for eligible applicants. The Assessment Committee meets on 28 October to allocate funding, and applicants are notified of its decision by 3 November via email.

Creative Communities Rotorua Assessment Committee
The committee membership term is now three years. As members are not elected in the same year, the committee always retains some experienced members.
Jill Walker, Denise Sturt and Amiria Savea complete their current term at the end of 2010. Nominations for one youth (under 25yrs) and two committee members open in late November and close on 21 January 2010. Appointment of new committee members takes place early February 2011.

Community Grants Scheme
This fund is available to support the work of voluntary organisations which provide community projects and services within the Rotorua district. Priority is given to projects and services which actively involve community members and are targeted to meet local needs. The scheme does not fund capital items but may fund:
- administration and operational costs
- initial project costs
- training costs for paid and unpaid personnel
- public education events.
The 2010 funding round is now closed. The 2011 funding round will open late-February 2011.
Community Grants Assessment Committee
Due to impending local body elections a new assessment committee will be appointed towards the end of 2010.

Community Safety Projects Fund
Application forms can be obtained by contacting the Community Safety Projects Officer on 350 0209 ext 8172.
Applications to the fund opened on 5 July 2010 and close 4PM on 13 August 2010. Applicants will need to be available for a meeting with the fund subcommittee in late August 2010.
