What are 'Community Outcomes' all about?
The Local Government Act 2002 requires councils around the country to facilitate community thinking about the kind of long term priorities which local people want to work towards in the coming decade. These 'Community Outcomes' can become focal points for planning not just by councils but by other organisations which also make an impact on the well-being of a district.
Councils are then required to develop processes for monitoring community progress towards these outcomes, and reporting back to the community.
In Rotorua we have a great foundation for the Community Outcomes. Over many years we have developed quality information about our district's social, environmental, cultural and economic well-being. In recent years, we have all worked in partnership with iwi organisations, government agencies, businesses, funding organisations, and local not-for-profit organisations. These innovations create a good basis upon which to develop shared community outcomes.
