Current Youth Council

What do the Youth Council Members do?

• Tell the Council what they think about certain issues.
• Put forward solutions to issues that affect young people in the Rotorua District.
• Share information and experiences with other young people.
• Learn about Council decision making processes and how the Council works.
• Attend regular monthly meetings. 
• Get involved in Council stuff, including things like events, conferences, Committee meetings, projects and much more!
• Work in sub-committees or groups on issues and solutions.
• Bring opinions of other young people to Council.
• Write and present submissions on issues that affect young people, such as the development of a burnout pad and Council's Draft 10 Year Plan. 
• Have fun and be involved!

How to apply for RDYC

• Applications are taken at the end of each year.
• Applicants must have a good range of youth connections in the District.
• Applicants must have skills and qualities that will benefit the Youth Council, including the ability to interact and work in a team, read documents, and discuss issues.
• The term of RDYC is usually one year, but people can re-apply for a second term.
